The year 2010, as in the previous year, was marked by heavy precipitation in winter and spring. The seasonal pattern was in the normal range and never too hot, which fostered a long growing season with a slightly late maturation. More essential than ever, green pruning and thinning were absolutely necessary during this vintage to achieve excellent results.

May 5, 2012: Very deep purple-black color, typical of Barbera. Ripe, spicy black fruit nose with deep oak, framing a core of pure black berries and plums. On the palate, this shows blackberries and raspberries, with a chocolate and coffee midpalate and hints of cassis. Good length and structure, great acidity and with a long finish. ...

Wine Advocate: 89 points. Issue 203, October 2012 Sandrone’s 2010 Barbera d’Alba is remarkably juicy and exuberant. There is plenty of rich, fleshy fruit in the glass, but at the same time, I expected to find more minerality and energy in this vintage. On the plus side, the French oak, which can sometimes be dominant, is better integrated than it has been at times. Overall, the 2010 is an excellent choice for drinking over the near and medium term. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. (Antonio Galloni)
Wine Spectator: 92 points. Web-Only: December 2012. A lush, modern style, delivering plenty of power on a supple texture. Possesses definition and balance, intensity and length--just about all you could ask for in a Barbera. Drink now through 2015. 500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
AIS/Bibenda: 3 Grappoli. 2013 Guide Impatto olfattivo generoso, fruttato e speziato con note di lampone, cipria, accenni floreali. Al gusto si esprime con equilibrio, morbidezza e giusta freschezza, poi rintocchi fruttati.
