The 2009 vintage will be remembered for the unusually heavy winter snowfall. Combined with a fairly wet early spring, this restored the ground water supply, which was low after several dry seasons.
After April 30 the weather returned to normal and the germination was uneventful and even, thanks to little rain in May and above-average temperatures. The summer was characterized by low rainfall and periods of above-average heat. The vines had a regular linear development in all phenological aspects.
Good climatic conditions accompanied the end of the growing season and brought the grapes to optimum ripeness. The harvest began on September 29 and ended October 7.

September 25 - October 6

Maceration: In upright open-top steel tanks for the first 8-10 days of the alcoholic fermentation
Malo-lactic Fermentation: Immediately after alcoholic fermentation in French oak casks with a capacity of 500l, half of which are new.

Aging: 12 months in French oak tonneaux of 500l (half new) followed by 9 months in bottle.

Wine Advocate: 90 points. #197 Oct 2011 The 2009 Barbera d’Alba impresses for its silkiness, finesse and sheer harmony. This is a mid-weight vintage for the Barbera, but here, too, the wine’s balance is totally irresistible. This shows lovely mid-palate pliancy in a feminine style that is incredibly appealing. Sweet dark cherries, flowers and subtle hints of French oak linger on the polished, impeccable finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016
IWC: 92 points #Issue 159 November/December 2011 Bright saturated ruby. Extremely primary aromas of cassis, spices and violet, with an enticing suggestion of candied berries. Very dense and lively, with firm structure and superb fruit. Finishes tight and long, in need of some bottle aging.
Duemilavini: 4 Grappoli Lampone, mora, succo di mirtilli, ottima densità e freschezza olfattiva. Al gusto non manca vigore e succosità con finale fruttato e persistente. Malolattica e maturazione in tonneau francesi.
Gambero Rosso: 2 Bicchieri- Novembre 2011 E' piuttosto matura, lievemente alcolica e di convincente bevibilità, senza pretese di complessità.
Slow wine- Novembre 2011 Matura senza eccessi, impeccabile per pulizia e freschezza.
