The 2009 vintage will be remembered for the unusually heavy winter snowfall. Combined with a fairly wet early spring, this restored the ground water supply, which was low after several dry seasons.
After April 30 the weather returned to normal and the germination was uneventful and even, thanks to little rain in May and above-average temperatures. The summer was characterized by low rainfall and periods of above-average heat. The vines had a regular linear development in all phenological aspects.
Good climatic conditions accompanied the end of the growing season and brought the grapes to optimum ripeness. The harvest began on September 29 and ended October 7.

Malo-lactic Fermentation: In French oak barrels with a capacity of 500 litres, all of which used for the second or third time

Wine Advocate: 92 points. #197, Oct 2011 The 2009 Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore is striking. It flows from the glass with sweet red fruits, flowers, spices and herbs in a very representative expression of this site. This is a gorgeous, poised Nebbiolo with wonderful mid-palate sweetness and fabulous overall balance. A clean, saline finish gives the wine its focus and proportion on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019.
IWC: 89+ # Issue 159 November/December 2011 Moderately saturated medium red. Reserved aromas of crushed redcurrant, cherry, mint and licorice complicated by leather and underbrush. Juicy and intense, with excellent acidity lending freshness and verve to the sweet red fruit flavors. Really spreads out on the back end. This very young nebbiolo is structured to age and may merit an outstanding rating with four or five years in the cellar. This was raised in all used tonneaux "to privilege the fruit."
Duemilavini: 4 Grappoli Solita puntuale raffinatezza Sandrone: frutto denso e polposo, fiori Nebbiolo, spezie fini e delicate, ciliegia e lampone, confetture. Al gusto gode dell'equilibrio dei migliori, tannini maturi, finale lungo e ancora fruttato. Per palati esigenti e perfezionisti. Malolattica e maturazione in tonneau francesi.
